Thanks for supporting an online conversation....How can we join in?

You just did. Is there a secondary literacy topic you'd like to discuss?

I teach Constitution to eighth graders, and I'd like to discuss how to handle political reading materials during this election year. Obviously we need to remain unbiased in our conversations with our students, but I'm just wondering how others have handled this issue during election (or non-election) years.

On a related topic, does anyone have particularly good trade books to use to teach the U.S. Constitution to eighth graders?

Hi ellen,
It is good to see that teachers are still struggling with the Constitution in 8th Grade....I don't know of any trade books suitable but I think Carson Delarosa has some workbooks that might be helpful. I remember seeing them in a catalog, Good Apple or something - Teacher Made/Created Materials...maybe you can check their web sites out. I remember that i always had a problem with my 8th Graders and had to create my own stuff....but that was over 30 years ago and that stuff is all gone. I will ask around. Maybe someone has something good.

Ellen -
I found sites such at
educationplace.com and abcteach.com to have a lot of helpful materials, and these sites are constantly being updated and added to.
