Multicultural series
In our graduate course on multicultural children's literature, we've been discussing the dearth of good series with main characters who are not Caucasian. Specifically, how about series featuring people of color--any ideas? Thanks!
The Bluford High Series is about a grooup of Black students ath the said HS. It is consists of 13 books that are geared for lower reading levels and high interest with the current subjects. Some titles include The Gun, The Bully, A Matter of Trust, and Someone to Love Me....The books are one dollar. their ste is: www.townsendpress.com
The Perfection Learning Literature and thought series have many thematic-based anthologies that include texts by authors of color and with characters that are not Caucasian. A variety of genres, such as fiction, non-fiction, poetry and even song lyrics are included. For example, there's Harlem Renaissance; Free at Last:The Struggle for Civil Rights; And Justice For All; Family Matters to name a few.
