Summer Professional Reading?

Now that we're into July, I'm starting (reluctantly) to think about the new school year. I'm looking for recent professional literacy publications to see what's new. What are you guys reading to keep sharp and prepare for the new year? I'm looking for recommendations for good reading/literacy books recently published.

No professional reading yet. Still trying to do the 'summer' thing. I have read "Tallgrass" by the gal that wrote Speak. It was great. It is about a Japanese camp in Colorado during WWII. It would be wonderful to recommend to American History classes!

Thanks for the suggested book. I start out the year with historical fiction as my first genre study(Oct.)--WWII and Holocaust--and always am looking for new books on the topic. Anyone else have some new books for this genre to suggest?

I have been reading some "edgy" YA realistic fiction--ex. Gail Giles, wonderful author!!!! Loved her new one Right Behind You.

I just picked up Cris Tovani's "I Read it But I Don't Get It" (I hate not being able to underline or italicize book titles on the internet!). I also just finished reading Lois Duncan's "Ransom." Other than those, I'm relaxing and reading all the magazines and journals I've accumulated during the school year. I love July!

I love July too! Another great YA Holocaust book that I just finished is The Book Thief by Zusak. The narrator is death. Great twist. I am currently reading Boy's Life by McCammon. Boy's will enjoy this one. My professional reading this summer is the book The Reading Zone by Atwell. I really want to try this idea in my novel class. Has anyone tried this?

I am back at school at this point - but I have been reading an awesome book called "Adolescent Literacy" Turning Promise into Practice" - it has chapters from a wide variety of experts in adolescent literacy, and I am enjoying having so many well written articles in one collection. I also just finished reading the "Midnighter" trilogy by Scott Westerfeld, and I found it really enjoyable Sci Fi/Fantasy.

Here I am in Utica....nice and rainy....listening to a motivational speaker and trying to figure out how to get more people invovled....
IRC has a 3 day retreat for council officers to get us up to snuff as officers....I hope it works. The motivational speaker had better get a little more sparkly or I'm gonna fall asleep after that meal!
She is showing a video with music, but no Pitt, or Reeves or even Depp to wake me up....Oh no. Braveheart music!
